If you've found your way here, you may already know that my name is Bill and I enjoy writing songs about God. If you did not know that, well now you do. I hope to be faithful with the songs I write. I'm not sure I know how to do that, but I think this website is a start. It contains the lyrics, chord charts, mp3's, even the stories behind the songs. And it is all free to you. So look around. Enjoy. And thanks for stopping by.

O Matchless God

download chord chart // download mp3

(verse)
Kingdoms will rise and kingdoms will fall
But there’s one Matchless King who reigns over all
All passions blaze, all hearts bow down
For the Matchless God whom the heavens crown

(pre-chorus)
O Matchless God in radiance and splendor
O Matchless God in greatness and grandeur

(chorus)
You are awesome in glory
Majestic in power
Wondrous and Holy
are You, O Matchless God

(Recorded May 2005 at Lighthouse Christian Church in Knoxville, TN.)

-------------------------------------------------------

A few years ago, I was a part of church that was starting something called a 'capital campaign'. Those of you who have been around church for awhile probably know exactly what that is. Basically, we were focusing all of our attention for 4-6 weeks on raising a large sum of money to help pay for the purchase and construction of a new building.

Now, I have no problem with capital campaigns in and of themselves. Many churches take part in these from time to time and they can be a very beneficial. But something just did not sit right with me about this specific campaign. It felt a bit like we were way more concerned with our kingdom (little "k") than His Kingdom (big "K").

This song came from that frustration. Our kingdoms will come and they will go, but God remains. And He remains infinitely more worthy of our passion and attention than any campaign we could ever pursue.
